Review: The Face Shop Character Mask Kakao Friends Set

Wednesday, September 21, 2016

Hello again~! Today I'll be reviewing The Face Shop's sheet masks from their collaboration with Kakaotalk. If you're at all interested in K-pop or K-drama, you probably know what Kakaotalk is, and if you're familiar with Kakaotalk, you're probably familiar with the Kakaotalk Friends. My favorite is Apeach!

I ordered these right before I found out that The Face Shop had recently reformulated their sheet masks in their Real Nature line, so I was a little nervous to try them because I didn't like the new formula very much. However, I love Apeach too much, not to mention I paid for these, and I really wanted to review them, so I went ahead and tried them out! I shared these with my sister, so today's review will be mainly on the Apeach, Neo, and Tube sheet masks, which are the Hydrating, Resilience, and Brightening masks respectively. As for the Frodo and Muzi masks, I'll have a shorter section summarizing my sister's thoughts on them.

I got these masks from Jolse for $18.48 USD. I totally misread the product name and thought I was getting more than one of each mask, but there were only five masks in this box set, which was fine in the end, since I had a lot of other masks coming in to try afterwards.

Here you can see the box the sheet masks were packaged in as well as the back of the box with some product description (in Korean). The writing in the picture is a little blurry so let me know if you'd like me to translate it. I'll also provide pictures of the back of the sheet masks individually later in the review, which did have product descriptions in English.

I should also note that since there was only one of each type of mask, I only used each of the following three masks once each: Apeach (Hydrating), Neo (Resilience), and Tube (Brightening). Also just for reference, I use sheet masks once a week for ten minutes each.

Sheet quality:
The sheet quality of the masks is quite thick. In comparison, they're thicker and feel heavier than Innisfree's It's Real Squeeze sheet masks. The serum/essence on the masks is also quite thick, especially compared to The Face Shop's Real Nature sheet mask line. The sheet masks adhere well to the skin, however, and the mask size was good for my face. There was only a little bit hanging off my chin and the mouth hole was a little big, but they were a pretty good fit and I don't have any other complaints.

Apeach // Hydrating (click the picture to see it in full resolution)
  • It didn't make my skin feel sticky, but it left a thick oily feeling that absorbed by bed time
  • Didn't need to wear moisturizer afterwards because my skin felt adequately moisturized with just the sheet mask
  • Absorbed well (doesn't just sit on top of my skin and wash off when I wash my face in the morning)
  • Scent: almost-too-strong spicy flower-y perfume, not too bad but not my favorite

Neo // Resilience (click the picture to see it in full resolution)
  • Same thick oily feeling on skin after taking off mask
  • Absorbed well, but not as quickly as the Apeach/Hydrating mask
  • Hydrates skin, didn't notice much in terms of resilience, but I also only used it once
  • Scent: light sweet flower perfume, not bad because the scent was lighter

Tube // Brightening (click the picture to see it in full resolution)
  • Left a stickier residue than the other two masks and didn't absorb as well
  • Skin definitely looked brighter right after taking the sheet mask off
  • Scent: just smelled like heavy perfume, but it wasn't too bad

Frodo // Moisturizing + Muzi // Soothing (click the pictures to see them in full resolution)
These are my sister's comments on the sheet masks, since I didn't personally use them:
  • Both sheet and serum felt heavy and thick, like wet construction paper
  • They were both average sheet masks and didn't do anything special

Lastly, here are pictures of the sheet masks themselves. I opted not to post pictures of my sister and I wearing them because they actually look kind of scary and/or just weird lol. As usual, click on the pictures to see them in full resolution.

In short, these are average moisturizing sheet masks. I'm not so sure how well they do in terms of what they claim (e.g. resilience) since I only used them once each, but in terms of hydration and moisturizing, they work as well as any other average sheet mask. I'm not sure how long they'll be selling though, so if anyone's interested, I would get them soon!

Would I buy them again? Probably not. They're not bad sheet masks, but they're just average and also a little more expensive than other sheet masks that do just as well.
